Before you go…
Visa. If you have a valid American or Canadian passport, you do not need a visa for stays of up to 90 days.
Language. The official language is Japanese.
Currency. Japan uses the Japanese yen (JPY). Since it is a cash-heavy society, it’s a good idea to carry some with you. If you run out, convenience stores have ATMs that accept major international credit and debit cards.
Weather. The country experiences all four seasons. Temperatures vary by region.
Electricity. Japan uses Type A and B plugs with a voltage of 100V and a frequency of 50/60Hz.
