About Kempinski
Palais Hansen Kempinski is a historic five-star luxury hotel located in the heart of Vienna directly on the famous Ring Bouelvard.
This Neo-Renaissance style building was originally designed by famous architect, Theophil Edvard Hansen, in 1873 to serve as a hotel property. Starting from 1941, however, it was used as an official building for 56 years. It wasn’t until 2013 when Palais Hansen reopened under the Kempinski brand did it begin receiving guests again.
Not only does it capture a beautiful blend of modern luxury with classic Viennese charm, it houses 152 rooms and suites, and a Michelin-starred restaurant – EDVARD. Its Day Spa serves as a rejuvenating escape and a relaxing remedy after a long day of exploring the city. When it comes to luxury hotels in Vienna, there truly is no better home-away-from-home.
Getting Here
If you are arriving by plane, Kempinski is located roughly 25 minutes away from the airport by car.
Since I was visiting Vienna from Prague, I’d taken a train and was travelling to the hotel from Wien Hauptbahnhof station. My Uber ride took approximately 20 minutes (with traffic) and cost €23.99, which is around $23 USD/$32 CAD.
If you prefer, they also offer limousine services at an extra charge.
Check-In
Check-in begins at 3:00PM. As with any hotel, early check-in is never guaranteed and depends on the availability of the rooms.
I’d arrived prior to check-in time and my suite unfortunately wasn’t ready just yet. However, I was able to check-in right on time without any issues.
Junior Suite
My friend and I had the pleasure of spending two nights in the elegant Junior Suite.
This urban sanctuary features a king-size bed, spacious living area, work desk, small outdoor balcony, as well as walk-in closet. Extra beds are available upon request, allowing this suite to accommodate up to four guests max.

Pros
- Friendly and hospitable staff
- Convenient location in one of the best areas to stay in Vienna
- Within walking distance to major tourist attractions and U-Bahn/trams
- Delicious breakfast with mixed buffet-style dishes and made-to-order items
- Heated bathroom tiles and anti-fog mirror
- Plenty of closet storage both by the main entrance and by the bathroom
- Complimentary minibar
Cons
- Fitness Centre opens at 10:00am
- I personally don’t find this to be a disadvantage, as I’m not much of a morning person. If you prefer to start your day early in the gym, you may want to plan for an outdoor run instead.
Overall, I had an extremely enjoyable stay at Palais Hansen Kempinski. If you’re looking for where to stay in Vienna for first-time visitors, I highly recommend booking a vacation with them!
