Vancouver Mural Fest 2016

Vancouver Mural Festival

What I love about murals is that it transforms a simple, blank space into the canvas of a creative mind.

Vancouver Mural Fest is no doubt this year’s biggest celebration of public art with more than 40 artists and 20 brands working alongside 150+ local businesses to create 35 new permanent murals around the city.

The actual festival took place on Saturday, August 20th. I didn’t find out about these amazing works of art until Sunday morning but needless to say, they are permanent murals – or until next year at least if and when collaborations are in place with new artists to paint new walls.

It did, however, take quite a drive to track down which mural was at which location. The website wasn’t updated just yet during my visit so I had to try my luck at pretty much all the locations. It has now been renewed so give it a look if you want to view a specific mural – link here.

This piece was definitely one of my favorites. It is titled “In Bloom” by Ilya Viryachev. Check out his behind the scenes journey here!

I couldn’t find the artists for the above two murals but they sure make your brain juices flowing.

Another piece I quite enjoyed was actually a collection of two murals. I unfortunately couldn’t capture the other mural but together they spelt “The present is a gift.”

And finally, my favorite of them all – the bull by Sudo-san (Taka Sudo).

These definitely weren’t the only murals. Some I didn’t get a chance to get to and a couple others that I saw but did not take photos of. Sometimes you just gotta enjoy the art itself you know? Enjoy it with your bare naked eyes and not from behind the viewfinder of a camera.

If you are in the Vancouver area and are looking for something fun, something outdoorsy to do, check out these amazing murals! It’s a very different form of art but I guarantee you will be in awe.

See you in my next post!

    1. Hi Kate, thanks for stopping by! Murals don’t get too much attention or recognition since a lot of them are usually tucked away in alleys and they’re not like a canvas pieces where people would pay to visit museums to admire them. For sure check out the street art in your area, hope you find some pleasant surprises! 🙂
