About The Knick

Full hotel review of The Knickerbocker in Times Square, New York.

Originally built in 1906, The Knick is the first ever luxury hotel in Times Square. Its Beaux-Arts façade beautifully contrasts New York’s dynamic landscape as well as its contemporary designs within. It houses a total of 330 guest rooms/suits and its rooftop bar has views that will make your jaw drop!

Getting Here

The Knickerbocker Hotel in Times Square.

We landed at LaGuardia Airport at 7:00pm on a Thursday and took a taxi to The Knick. We were originally going to order a Lyft/Uber, but the lineup for pickup was insanely long. The airport staff actually advised us that a taxi ride may more or less cost about the same. In the end, our cab fare came to $44.42 USD, which was inclusive of a $10 rush hour surcharge, and the ride was approximately an hour long.

This 352-square-foot room features a king-size bed and a queen-size sofa bed. It sleeps up to two guests and is incredibly spacious. Premier City rooms also come with two queen-size beds (we stayed in the king bed only one) and all rooms have corner views of Broadway & 42nd Street.

St. Cloud

Perched above the city skyline, St. Cloud is The Knick’s ultimate rooftop bar and lounge. We unfortunately didn’t get a chance to grab drinks here, but I can definitely see myself coming back on a future trip!

Around the Area

Times Square at night.

Apart from Times Square, The Knick is also steps to other popular attraction sights like Bryant Park and The New York Public Library. Not to mention, there are several subway stops nearby. From number trains to letter ones, The Knick’s central location makes it extremely convenient for travellers to explore what New York has to offer.

Pros

  • Superb location
    • Literally right in Times Square and steps to Bryant Park, The New York Public Library, and various restaurants + bars
    • Several metro lines accessible at nearby subway stations
  • Even though it is located right in the middle of all the action, it is surprisingly quiet!
  • Very spacious room (especially for New York standards)
  • Great hospitality
    • Turn down service
    • Provided us with free bandaids
    • Complimentary water! We asked for several bottles of water and I loved that they were so generous with it.

Cons

Both my friend and I had a fabulous stay at The Knick and I really don’t have anything negative to say about our experience. The room is a little dark though and there is no pool on the property. However, that doesn’t necessarily bother everyone. (I was perfectly fine with both.) Hotels in New York generally just don’t have pools. Plus, if you are looking to get some work done in the room, there’s nothing that a single switch of the lamp can’t fix. Overall I highly recommend The Knick and can’t wait to be back again!

One, would I stay here…yes! The rooms look comfortable and is in the ideal location. Two….again location…it’s like wow! Right next to Times Square.

However, did you find when sleeping in the room, the lights from Times Square kept you up all night? I think that would be the only downer for me.

Not at all! We actually took naps mid-day (because we were so tired from walking around sightseeing) and their blinds were perfect. There are two layers too and in the pictures above, you can see the lighter, sheer layer. Behind that, there’s a blackout roller shade/blind that you can control using a remote control. There’s definitely no question about the sleep quality here 😉

If ever I get to Times Square in NY this will be my place! It seems so spacious. Especially the bathroom!
I too wouldn’t mind the absence of a pool in the property. Great property.

I am always amazed at the variety of hotel options there are in the Times Square area. I did not know that the Knick was the first luxury hotel in Times Square. Good to know it is quiet even being the midst of all of the action. Love when hotels provide just a little extra service.

I didn’t know either until I stayed here and I loved getting pampered here. The service was great plus you just can’t beat a location like that!

I have travelled several times to New York but never managed to stay around Times Square ever but the Knicker Bocker surely makes me want to re visit and experience it again. Quite interesting to know it was built in 1906 and the first ever luxury hotel in Times Square. There are so many hotels in and around Times Square but this does seem to stand out now for me. Rooms look luxurious and filled with all you would need to make it a perfect stay. Thanks for sharing a great property in the heart of NYC

Location is the most important things I look for when booking a hotel and The Knickerbocker
Is a great location! I love the rooms simple design. The views from the rooftop bar are incredible, that alone would be worth the stay.

Even if you don’t end up staying there, the bar itself would make for an amazing New York memory!

It’s so much fun to be able to stay in Times Square, especially on someone’s first visit to the city. I remember my first time in NYC and getting to stay in Times Square with all the lights and action! You are so right that spacious rooms and pools in NYC hotels are rare. The Knickbocker looks very luxurious and like a great place to stay!

Fun! I visited almost ten years ago on a high school band trip so I don’t remember where we stayed, but probably not in Times Square. It’s definitely an unbeatable location though and I hope this will inspire you to book a stay at The Knick the next time you’er back!

I loved the Times Square area for staying in NYC as it is very vibrant. I stayed there only but at Grand Hyatt which was also at center location. But the Knickerbocker also looks worth staying with right at the center of colorful Times square. Even the room looks very modern, sleek and with all amenities. The view from St. Cloud are superb and for this I am totally sold out for this property. Thanks for sharing your candid reviews.
