25 Rocky Mountain Pictures that Will Inspire You to Pay a Visit

Peyto Lake

“Sometimes you find yourself in the middle of nowhere and sometimes, in the middle of nowhere, you find yourself.” (Peyto Lake)

I know, I know… totally behind on my weekly blogging. Haven’t even shared all the beautiful Rocky Mountain pictures from my recent road trip yet and I’ve already booked another flight and am packing on the side as I draft this post. Totally not gonna be able to afford mortgage for the next ten years so. Feel free to donate a few cents and click on those ads in the side bar lol!

All jokes aside, over the BC long weekend here in Canada, I went on my third road trip to the Canadian Rockies!

The Rocky Mountains is a mountain range here in western Canada that stretches 3,000 miles from British Columbia to Alberta.

Around 1998 was when my dad took us on our first road trip to the Rockies.Back then, there was no GPS. It was just old school maps and a compass and that was it! (Can you imagine what a task it must’ve been navigating through those 3,000+ miles with no Google Maps???) I was five at the time and obviously have zero recollection whatsoever. Fast forward almost 20 years later and here I was, going back for the third time. And for the first time ever, I was finally the one behind the wheel. (Read about my second Rockies road trip here.)

There’s just something so mesmerizing about the skyline and mountain ranges that make the scenic drive so sooooo worth the long hours of sitting and butts going numb and all.

If you’re a fan of road trips and love taking nature walks, a Rocky Mountain road trip is definitely one heck of an unforgettable one. I highly highly recommend it. And well, hopefully my Rocky Mountain pictures have convinced you otherwise.

Locations in Above Pictures

To recap, below are all of the locations we visited during this Rockies road trip:

  1. Golden Eco-Adventure Ranch
  2. Lake Louise
  3. Peyto Lake
  4. Bow Lake
  5. Cave & Basin National Historic Site
  6. Lake Minnewanka

The Golden Eco-Adventure Ranch is the only one on the list that is located in British Columbia. I actually had my first glamping experience there so feel free to check out my review for Love & Lantern.

The rest of the destinations are all in Alberta and will surely make your jaw drop. If you are looking for things to do in Alberta, add these to your Alberta attractions bucket list. Apart from that, as it is Canada’s 150th birthday, here are an additional 150 activities to do for your next Canada trip as suggested by Liliane from My Toronto, My World: “150 Ways to Celebrate Canada Turning 150“.

  2. Ah the Rockies !!! It is really a shame that we never saw them even though we went already several times to Canada. After seeing your stunning shots I am sure that during our next travel we will finally be able to check it off our list though.
    Thank you and greetings
    Amelie

    1. Oh no! Honestly Canada is too big… So many places to see and explore but always never enough time for all. I’m sure you’ll get to it soon though!!!

  3. I love the Rockies! You have such a talent of capturing the beauty of these mountains! I almost feel as if I am there, standing in front of them. Great post!

    1. Aww I’m so glad to hear that Emma! Which part of Canada are you thinking of visiting? I’m based on the west coast so let me know if you need any recommendations!!

  5. OMG Jas!!! I’ve been dying to visit here. I see all the beautiful photos on IG! And your photos look like a painting! was it hard to get to the viewing points at lake louise?

    1. It was hard only because during summer months, it gets so busy that all the parking lots fill up. You basically need to park your car elsewhere and take a shuttle (free) there.

    1. I really wanted to canoe but we somehow didn’t get to in the end but yes we hiked! Well we kinda did ish… The hike to the Peyto Lake viewpoint is like 10-15 minutes and there’s quite a bit of incline so I guess that still counts? LOL

  6. I also want to visit the Rockies. I can’t imagine missing out on a beautiful place like tjis which promises a memeroble visit. I’ve been to Canada but not this part of Canada, this is a new view to Canada for me and as usual, Canada never disappoints me. It keeps me in awe and I’d be sure to follow up on your photo diary.

    1. Canada is huge so it’s literally impossible to see all the beauties it has to offer. This is definitely a must tho and I urge you to take a road trip here if you can!!

    1. Thanks so much Cathy! That really means a lot because this is the first time I’m doing an advanced edit like this. The Rockies is absolutely beautiful and we had the time of our lives. Come visit us if and when you can!! <3

    1. Thanks so much Priti! Funny story tho… When my friend was taking the photo for me, she heard the people around saying that we were on a photoshoot hahahahaha!

    1. Thanks Sandykul! It depends on what kind of activities you’re looking to do. Summer is absolutely fantastic for hikes and visits to beautiful lakes like these but mind you, Canada does get pretty cold. Needless to say we have some amazing snow for skiing and snowboarding. I’d say both are great and no matter when you come you’ll have a great time for sure 🙂

  7. Gorgeous views such as those on your photos are indeed a great reward after a long road trip! You have captured amazing scenes that I find myself longing for an awesome road trip too! 😉

    1. Thanks so much Annika! I actually live in the provence next door so it’s still a bit of a drive hence why we flew in and then rented a car there. But yes, super blessed to call this beautiful country home!!!

  8. Your photos of the Rockies are so inspiring and colorful. However, they inspire me a cold and chill weather. I wonder how cold is it there because I’ve seen you dressed in a white dress or walking barefoot. Weren’t you cold at all?

    1. Thank you!!! Super glad to hear you enjoy the title because this isn’t something I usually do here on the blog. Cheers!

  9. Your pictures are absolutely amazing! I’m already desperate to get to this side of the world but now even more so. Love the video too! Keep up the inspo 🙂

  10. I visited this part of Canada with my parents when I was also about five or six, but I totally remember the trip. I remember being delighted by the wildlife just wandering on through town and holding up traffic. I’d love to go back as an adult, but just haven’t made it back yet.

    1. Aww well you obviously have way better memory than me hahaa. And I bet it’ll be quite the trip revisiting so many years after!

  11. I have no words to tell how bad I want to visit the Rockies! Your pictures are stunning and I bet it looks even better in there 🙂

    1. Thank you so much dear! I thought I was dreaming too when I saw these beauties in real life and pretty much had to pinch myself to make sure otherwise. Hope you’ll get to cross them off soon 🙂

  12. This is probably one of the most stunnign destinations in the world – even though you can’t recall the first trip when you were five, pretty cool to head back and discover the area as an adult knowing that you’ve been there before. But with GPS this time! Love your photos of Lake Lousie and Peyto Lake – I hope to get there someday!

  13. The awesome beauty of the terrain leaps across stunningly in your pictures. The landscapes are simply breathtaking and jaw dropping. It must have indeed been a blissful experience. Lake Louis looks so ethereal and sublime. One of the most beautiful places in the world.

  14. Amazing photos! The Rockies looks like such a beautiful place to visit. Also how exciting you are off again. We have a road trip coming up and just cant wait.

  15. I’m also mesmerized by the Rockies, and my dad used to take us there from our home in Saskatchewan almost every year. Then I stayed at the Banff Centre of the Arts three different times. I can NEVER get enough of the Rockies.

    1. No way that’s crazy! What a drive that must’ve been!!! Sounds like you had such awesome road trips back in the days!

  16. I cannot believe how blue that water is! I’ve been wanting to do a Rockies road trip myself. How long do you think is a good amount of time for a trip?

    1. Eek that’s a tough question because there is a LOT to see. It also depends on what kind of activities you like doing. Hiking, canoeing, these all take time and you don’t wanna rush yourself. I would say a week give or take.

  17. The rockies look awesome. I hope to visit them one day but my friends were telling me that the trains in Canada are crazy expensive

    1. I’ve actually never taken the train so I’m not too sure about the prices but worse comes to worse you could always rent a car maybe?
