Rockies Road Trip [A Photo Diary]

Peyto Lake

“Sometimes you find yourself in the middle of nowhere and sometimes, in the middle of nowhere, you find yourself.”

I know, I know… totally behind on my weekly blogging. Haven’t even shared all the beautiful photos from my recent Rockies road trip yet and I’ve already booked another flight and am packing on the side as I draft this post. Totally not gonna be able to afford mortgage for the next ten years so feel free to donate a few cents and click on those ads in the side bar lol!

All jokes aside, over the BC long weekend here in Canada, I went on my third road trip to the Canadian Rockies!

Around 1998 was when my dad took us on our first road trip to the Rockies. Back then, there was no GPS. It was just old school maps and a compass and that was it! I was five at the time and obviously have zero recollection whatsoever. Fast forward almost 20 years later and here I was, going back for the third time and for the first time, I was the one behind the wheel.

There’s just something so mesmerizing about the skyline and mountain ranges that make the scenic drive so sooooo worth the long hours of sitting and butts going numb and all. We also stopped in Calgary for a bit although there wasn’t much to do especially since both my friend and I were on the same road trip here two years ago already.

Gonna keep this post short and sweet and I’ll see you next time in my blog about yet another road trip I’ll be taking on Labor Day long weekend!

Ah the Rockies !!! It is really a shame that we never saw them even though we went already several times to Canada. After seeing your stunning shots I am sure that during our next travel we will finally be able to check it off our list though.
    Thank you and greetings

  7. August 27, 2017 / 5:52 am

OMG Jas!!! I’ve been dying to visit here. I see all the beautiful photos on IG! And your photos look like a painting! was it hard to get to the viewing points at lake louise?

    • JASCHEN
      August 27, 2017 / 3:40 pm

It was hard only because during summer months, it gets so busy that all the parking lots fill up. You basically need to park your car elsewhere and take a shuttle (free) there.

  8. August 27, 2017 / 6:52 am

Wow! I love your pictures! I want see the Canadian Rockies so much! It just looks like a stunning place! Did you hike or do any canoeing?

    • JASCHEN
      August 27, 2017 / 3:42 pm

I really wanted to canoe but we somehow didn’t get to in the end but yes we hiked! Well we kinda did ish… The hike to the Peyto Lake viewpoint is like 10-15 minutes and there’s quite a bit of incline so I guess that still counts? LOL

  9. August 27, 2017 / 7:28 am

Love the photos! You captured some amazing landscapes!

I’ve been to Canada but not this part of Canada, this is a new view to Canada for me and as usual, Canada never disappoints me. It keeps me in awe and I’d be sure to follow up on your photo diary.

      August 27, 2017 / 3:37 pm

Canada is huge so it’s literally impossible to see all the beauties it has to offer. This is definitely a must tho and I urge you to take a road trip here if you can!!

  11. August 27, 2017 / 1:42 pm

This looks stunning! I really need to go there next time when I’m in Canada 🙂 Nice video, too! What did you use to edit it?

Thanks so much Priti! Funny story tho… When my friend was taking the photo for me, she heard the people around saying that we were on a photoshoot hahahahaha!

  15. August 27, 2017 / 7:05 pm

Wow your photos are incredible! <3 Do you recommend visiting Canada in Summer over Winter?

    • JASCHEN
      August 27, 2017 / 8:31 pm

Thanks Sandykul! It depends on what kind of activities you’re looking to do. Summer is absolutely fantastic for hikes and visits to beautiful lakes like these but mind you, Canada does get pretty cold. Needless to say we have some amazing snow for skiing and snowboarding. I’d say both are great and no matter when you come you’ll have a great time for sure 🙂

  16. August 27, 2017 / 7:22 pm

Gorgeous views such as those on your photos are indeed a great reward after a long road trip! You have captured amazing scenes that I find myself longing for an awesome road trip too! 😉

      September 15, 2017 / 5:06 pm

Thanks so much Annika! I actually live in the provence next door so it’s still a bit of a drive hence why we flew in and then rented a car there. But yes, super blessed to call this beautiful country home!!!

  18. August 27, 2017 / 10:29 pm

Such a serene and quaint place. The untouched wilderness of Canada is what seems so alluring. Would love to visit this wonderful country someday.

      September 17, 2017 / 6:47 pm

Same! I’ve been three times and it still doesn’t get old!

  21. August 28, 2017 / 12:45 am

Your photos of the Rockies are so inspiring and colorful. However, they inspire me a cold and chill weather. I wonder how cold is it there because I’ve seen you dressed in a white dress or walking barefoot. Weren’t you cold at all?

    • JASCHEN
      September 17, 2017 / 6:48 pm

Hahhahaa it was super hot!!! I know there’s snow on the mountains, but do not be fooled XDD

  22. August 28, 2017 / 10:47 am

Thank you Katy! Really hope you’ll get to visit soon because it is BEAUTIFUL! 😉

  25. August 29, 2017 / 3:25 am

I visited this part of Canada with my parents when I was also about five or six, but I totally remember the trip. I remember being delighted by the wildlife just wandering on through town and holding up traffic. I’d love to go back as an adult, but just haven’t made it back yet.

    • JASCHEN
      September 17, 2017 / 7:12 pm

Aww well you obviously have way better memory than me hahaa. And I bet it’ll be quite the trip revisiting so many years after!

  26. August 29, 2017 / 5:08 am

Thank you so much dear! I thought I was dreaming too when I saw these beauties in real life and pretty much had to pinch myself to make sure otherwise. Hope you’ll get to cross them off soon 🙂

    August 29, 2017 / 5:44 pm

This is probably one of the most stunnign destinations in the world – even though you can’t recall the first trip when you were five, pretty cool to head back and discover the area as an adult knowing that you’ve been there before. But with GPS this time! Love your photos of Lake Lousie and Peyto Lake – I hope to get there someday!

    • JASCHEN
      September 17, 2017 / 7:15 pm

Lake Louise and Peyto Lake are definitely bucket list worthy. You won’t regret visiting 😉

  30. August 29, 2017 / 7:15 pm

The awesome beauty of the terrain leaps across stunningly in your pictures. The landscapes are simply breathtaking and jaw dropping. It must have indeed been a blissful experience. Lake Louis looks so ethereal and sublime. One of the most beautiful places in the world.

  31. August 30, 2017 / 4:38 am

Oh fun! Where are you headed!??!?!!

  32. August 30, 2017 / 5:55 am

I’m also mesmerized by the Rockies, and my dad used to take us there from our home in Saskatchewan almost every year. Then I stayed at the Banff Centre of the Arts three different times. I can NEVER get enough of the Rockies.

    • JASCHEN
      September 17, 2017 / 7:22 pm

No way that’s crazy! What a drive that must’ve been!!! Sounds like you had such awesome road trips back in the days!

  33. August 30, 2017 / 10:03 am

I cannot believe how blue that water is! I’ve been wanting to do a Rockies road trip myself. How long do you think is a good amount of time for a trip?

    • JASCHEN
      September 17, 2017 / 7:19 pm

Eek that’s a tough question because there is a LOT to see. It also depends on what kind of activities you like doing. Hiking, canoeing, these all take time and you don’t wanna rush yourself. I would say a week give or take.

  34. August 30, 2017 / 10:32 am

The rockies look awesome. I hope to visit them one day but my friends were telling me that the trains in Canada are crazy expensive

    • JASCHEN
      September 17, 2017 / 7:17 pm

I’ve actually never taken the train so I’m not too sure about the prices but worse comes to worse you could always rent a car maybe?

  35. August 30, 2017 / 11:05 am

I LOVE roadtrips, and I didn’t know that so many of these famous views were from the Canadian Rockies! I guess I know where I need to go now! Love those mountains so much.

    • JASCHEN
      September 17, 2017 / 7:03 pm

Hahaa well Lake Louise is no doubt one of the more well-known/highly Instagrammed spots in Canada and it’s absolutely stunning. You’ll definitely have to come visit someday!!! 😀

    • JASCHEN
      September 15, 2017 / 5:07 pm

Thanks Anna! The white one is actually from Forever 21!!! I’ve seen soooo many in the same style but all over $100 so this one was definitely a steal! 😀

  41. August 31, 2017 / 5:23 pm

Oh my goodness this photography is stunning!! I felt like I had fallen into the colors of a dream… I didn’t know the water was so beautiful blue in the Rockies.

    • JASCHEN

  42. September 1, 2017 / 4:22 pm

Your photos are stunning. Are you using a preset? Love the bridge shot, the red just pops.

    • JASCHEN
      September 15, 2017 / 5:01 pm

Hey Debra! I use a preset when I edit for Instagram but otherwise I edit manually in Lightroom 🙂

  43. September 3, 2017 / 7:43 am

Simply amazing! The scenery is just beautiful. It has been our dream to hike/climb the Rockies ever since we started mountaineering a few years ago. We hope we’ll be given the opportunity to accomplish this dream.

    • JASCHEN
      September 15, 2017 / 5:00 pm

Wow that’s awesome!!!!! We barely did any hikes and that was one of my major regrets so I’ll have to live vicariously through you when you guys go!

  44. September 3, 2017 / 10:38 am

Love the editing and more importantly the content in the video and photos! The Canadian Rockies look so much more rugged than the ones in Colorado where I’m from. I’d love to get up there sometime!

    • JASCHEN
      September 15, 2017 / 4:59 pm

Much appreciated Eddie! It was my first time editing a video in this sort of style so I’m glad you liked it!! And ooo Colorado… I haven’t been yet but it’s definitely on my list 🙂

  45. September 3, 2017 / 3:50 pm

I love visiting the Rocky Mountains! There’s so much amazing scenery it’s often tough to decide where to look. Your pictures do a really great job capturing it
